PPY Manifesto Pt 3
Part 3 of 4: Presence + Discipline
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” - Viktor E. Frankl
The practice and repetition of being RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW, then, will help you stay present in your life, and make the most of each moment. Practice enough, and you’ll find yourself becoming more present with yourself and your body, more present with your relationships, and more present with your work and the focus of your life. You will develop the ability to discern between conscious reality and the unconscious fake news in your head.
The physical intensity of the yoga practice provides a training ground for responding to the intensity of life. The synchrony of the movement and breath builds tension and subsequent release in your physical body, leaving you with a feeling of freedom and having accomplished great things inside and out!
This kind of yoga is taught and practiced as a discipline. It may seem restrictive at first not to breathe whenever you like or move whenever you want during class. Here’s why we ask you to move and breathe with the group: There are so many preferences, opinions, fleeting emotional choices, and distractions in how we could choose to do yoga, just like how we choose to do life. But having a discipline to hold you steady and rely on will eventually give you way more freedom in your life than you could possibly imagine.
