The most efficient and effective way to learn to work the alignment of your body is through educated touch. In the Hands-On Laboratory, it is the use of “hands on’ that assists the student in re-awakening the PROPRIOCEPTION system. Proprioception or kinesthetic sense is the sense that we use to internally calibrate our own body location and how to judge the effort necessary for moving. It’s what allows us to touch our nose with our eyes closed!

Learning about kinesthetic proprioception and how to move with the appropriate amount of effort in regard to stimulus is very valuable. The understanding of this system is the essential work manual for ease of movement and also a discipline for understanding mind/body unity. The study of perception makes us more aware of ALL perception. Ignorance or misunderstanding of how this sensory system works can cause us to move in ways that we imagine are correct but in fact are erroneous in regard to how our body is meant to move. This misunderstanding in association with body use is one of the main causes for loss of agility and hence, injury. Also, if we are unaware of the body’s own creative constructive learning abilities we can become resistant to change.

Using the Alexander Technique as the educational base, the Hands-On Laboratory works with students in regard to understanding the proprioceptive system and how it works in their body. The Alexander Technique is an educational system that helps to prevent misuse patterns that cause physical decline due to habituated mannerisms. Throughout this class, you will see, feel and understand how this system works through hands on guidance and explanation.

PLEASE NOTE:  Hands-On Laboratory are by appointment only.  This class is limited to 5 students. You can call or reserve a spot online ahead of time. The cost of class is $25 for an hour for 2-5 students and $35 for one student. The payment for this class is non-transferable to other classes and is refundable with a 24 hour notice of cancellation.
