Welcome to Portland Power Yoga!

If you are reading this, you are on your way to becoming a stronger, healthier and happier human being. You may be a newbie to yoga or maybe just new to our studio – either way please feel free to attend either our All Levels or Basic classes.

Take a second to fill this out and get yourself started!

From the moment you walk through our doors, our management team along with our committed team of teachers and assistants will make you feel at home every step of the way. Our managers and work-study staff, called sevateers, are happy to assist you with your first time experience. At your first visit, you will be attended to personally from your sign in at the desk to landing on your mat. Our commitment to you is to provide you with the best experience possible no matter whether you are new to Downward Facing Dog or have walked your Dog a million times!

You will begin to feel better right after your first class. In a very short time, with regular practice you will feel your body and mind growing stronger and more flexible every day. You will begin to feel more relaxed and able to maintain a sense of calm equanimity in situations where you might normally feel “stressed out”.

You might come to class because of an injury or maybe because you have some low back pain. Maybe your doctor told you to. You might come because you know you could be stronger but you just don’t know how to do it. Maybe you feel stressed and have heard that yoga can help you find some inner calm. For whatever reason you come, you will immediately begin to feel better doing yoga and that feeling of feeling better accumulates as you continue to practice on a regular basis.

The yoga practice is done in a heated room because the heat helps to make it easier to move, sculpt and redesign the shape of the muscle quickly while greatly minimizing post practice soreness. Expect to stretch, flow squeeze, twist, detoxify, have some fun and SWEAT! The process of sweating has many benefits and in combination with yoga builds strong bones and muscles that lead to a whole new feeling of being alive and awake.

JUST THE FACTS:

  • You will receive a mat and a towel on the house for your first class. The yoga mats that we have for rental are made specifically for a heated yoga practice. You may bring you own mat and towel if you like.
  • Please hydrate before you come to class. The rule of thumb is to drink a liter of water an hour before you practice. We also carry water for sale if you need to buy more for during class.
  • Also, do your best to not eat anything heavy or a major meal at least 2 hours before you practice. However, please do not refrain from eating a bit before class if you are hungry! If you do need to snack sometime before class, something light like a piece of fruit or some whole grain bread with nut butter will digest easily and provide energy as well.
  • Portland Power Yoga has separate Women and Men’s bathrooms with two showers in each, if you need to shower before heading off to work or an evening event.
  • We also carry Ultima Replenisher powdered electrolytes and coconut water to hydrate after class.
  • On your return to Portland Power Yoga, if you do not have a yoga mat or towel, you may rent them from us for $2 for each item.

PRACTICE GUIDELINES:

  • It’s best to wear clothing that will “wick” sweat. Yoga clothing and athletic clothing are best. Cotton tee shirts or shorts will become heavy with perspiration, keeping the clothing close to the skin, impeding movement and increasing the feeling of heat close to your body.
  • Men can practice with or without a shirt.
  • Refrain from wearing heavy perfumes or essential oils and please make sure you practice good hygiene before coming to class.
  • Unlike a gym experience, yoga practice gives you chance to go inward, focusing on yourself while amidst other people. In order to support this more focused experience, please do your best to not talk during class.
  • After every practice, please clean your mat and your block with spray bottles that are provided in the yoga room.
